KASIGAU CORRIDOR REDD PROJECT Tsavo West Corridor, Kenya, East Afri
The project is situated in the Kasigau Corridor, which serves as a critical wildlife habitat connecting Tsavo East and West National Parks in Kenya.
The primary objective of the project is to reduce deforestation and forest degradation within the Kasigau Corridor, thereby reducing carbon emissions and conserving the region's biodiversity.
Local communities are actively involved in the project through employment opportunities, sustainable land management practices, and benefit-sharing mechanisms. The project aims to improve local livelihoods and empower communities in forest conservation efforts.
The project focuses on capturing and storing carbon dioxide by safeguarding the forests in the Kasigau Corridor from threats such as illegal logging, land conversion, and wildfires.
The Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project has undergone rigorous verification processes by the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and other recognized standards, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the emission reductions achieved.
In addition to carbon sequestration, the project delivers multiple co-benefits, including the preservation of critical wildlife habitats, protection of water resources, promotion of sustainable agriculture, and support for community development initiatives.
The project generates carbon credits, known as Verified Carbon Units (VCUs), which can be sold in voluntary carbon markets. The revenue from carbon credit sales provides a sustainable financing mechanism for the ongoing conservation efforts and community development projects.
The success of the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project has led to its recognition as a scalable model for community-based forest conservation initiatives in Kenya and other regions, showcasing the potential for sustainable development through carbon finance.
